Candle Care & Safety

Your safety is important to us. Following these simple candle care guidelines will help you enjoy your candles while ensuring a clean, even, and safe burn.

Before Each Burn

Trim Your Wick

Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch (6 mm) before lighting your candle.

Why trim the wick?

  • Creates a cleaner, brighter flame
  • Helps prevent excessive smoke and soot
  • Reduces flickering and mushrooming (carbon buildup on the wick)
  • Promotes an even burn and extends the life of your candle
  • Helps prevent the flame from becoming too large

A wick trimmer works best, but scissors or nail clippers can also be used.

During Burning

Burn Within Sight

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to sleep.

Keep Away From Flammable Items

Place candles away from curtains, bedding, books, paper, decorations, and other flammable materials.

Keep Away From Children & Pets

Burn candles in a location that cannot be reached by children or pets.

Use a Stable Surface

Always place candles on a heat-resistant, level surface away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans, or open windows.

Follow the 4-Hour Rule

Do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow the candle to cool before relighting.

Allow a Full Melt Pool

During the first burn, allow the wax to melt completely across the surface. This helps prevent tunneling and promotes an even burn throughout the life of the candle.

When to Extinguish

Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container. Burning a candle too low can cause the container to overheat or crack.

Extinguishing Your Candle

  • Use a candle snuffer when possible.
  • Avoid blowing aggressively on the flame, which may cause hot wax to splatter.
  • Ensure the wick is fully extinguished before leaving the candle unattended.

General Safety Reminders

  • Never move a burning candle.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.
  • Do not touch or move the container while the candle is burning or until it has cooled completely.
  • Burn only in well-ventilated areas.
  • Stop use immediately if the container becomes damaged or cracked.
